The Continent By Keira Drake!!!!!!!!!!

The Continent by Keira Drake

For her sixteenth birthday, Vaela Sun receives the most coveted gift in all the Spire—a trip to the Continent. It seems an unlikely destination for a holiday: a cold, desolate land where two nations remain perpetually locked in combat. Most citizens lucky enough to tour the Continent do so to observe the spectacle and violence of battle, a thing long vanished in the peaceful realm of the Spire. For Vaela, the war holds little interest. As a smart and talented apprentice cartographer and a descendent of the Continent herself, she sees the journey as a dream come true: a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve upon the maps she’s drawn of this vast, frozen land.

But Vaela’s dream all too quickly turns to nightmare as the journey brings her face-to-face with the brutal reality of a war she’s only read about. Observing from the safety of a heli-plane, Vaela is forever changed by the sight of the bloody battle being waged far beneath her. And when a tragic accident leaves her stranded on the Continent, Vaela finds herself much closer to danger than she’d ever imagined—and with an entirely new perspective as to what war truly means. Starving, alone, and lost in the middle of a war zone, Vaela must try to find a way home—but first, she must survive.

Review:

Yessss!!! I loved everything about this story! <3 After reading the synopsis, I couldn't get it out of my head, so it quickly moved to the top of my TBR. I consumed this book in two days. I HAD to know what was going to happen. I fell in love with the characters quickly. Discovering what life on the Continent truly entailed was gruesome, yet beautiful. People fought but they also appreciated life, unlike in the Spire where wealth was common. These characters will have you cheering for them as the inspiration screams off the page. <3 I cannot wait for book two and three! This adventure is going to epic.

Nobody's Princess by Esther M. Friesner

Nobody's Princess by Esther M. Friesner She  is  beautiful, she  is  a princess, and Aphrodite  is  her favorite goddess, but something in Helen of Sparta just itches for more out of life. Not one to count on the gods—or her looks—to take care of her, Helen sets out to get what she wants with steely determination and a sassy attitude. That same attitude makes Helen a few enemies—such as the self-proclaimed "son of Zeus" Theseus—but it also intrigues, charms, and amuses those who become her friends, from the famed huntress Atalanta to the young priestess who is the Oracle of Delphi. In  Nobody's Princess,  author Esther Friesner deftly weaves together history and myth as she takes a new look at the girl who will become Helen of Troy. The resulting story offers up adventure, humor, and a fresh and engaging heroine you cannot help but root for.   Audience: 13+ Review:  I loved watching Helen grow up, I love seeing female characters g...
