Emma's TBR Pile...YIKES!!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I haven't done a full post in too long.  I got "stuck" on a book, so I'm feeling totally behind on my reading!  To make up for it, I figured I would show off my "to be read" pile, and tell you about some of the amazing books I plan to read in the near (ish?) future.

I know right?  It's a happy TBR shelf :)
(side note, my husband is not so thrilled that I've covered the board games with my giant piles, but he can deal.)

You can see the full stack here, but I wanted to highlight a few that I'm really excited about/books that Kelsey hasn't already told you about.

1. ANNE+HENRY by Dawn Ius

In this wonderfully “clever and compelling” (Kirkus Reviews) retelling of the infamous—and torrid—love affair between Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII, history collides with the present when a sizzling romance ignites in a modern-day high school.
Henry Tudor’s life has been mapped out since the day he was born: student body president, valedictorian, Harvard Law School, and a stunning political career just like his father’s. But ever since the death of his brother, the pressure for Henry to be perfect has doubled. And now he’s trapped: forbidden from pursuing a life as an artist or dating any girl who isn’t Tudor-approved.
Then Anne Boleyn crashes into his life.
Wild, brash, and outspoken, Anne is everything Henry isn’t allowed to be—or want. But soon Anne is all he can think about. His mother, his friends, and even his girlfriend warn him away, but his desire for Anne consumes him.
Henry is willing to do anything to be with her, but once they’re together, will their romance destroy them both?
Inspired by the true story of Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII, Anne & Henry beautifully re imagines the intensity, love, and betrayal between one of the most infamous couples of all time.

Audience: 13+

Why I want to read it:
Ok so I'm slightly obsessed with the Tudors, and fascinated by King Henry VIII so when I saw this book in the stock room with the new releases I literally snatched it and ran.  I'm excited by the thought of a modern retelling of such a sadistic, yet very passionate love story.

2. WHEN by Victoria Laurie

Maddie doesn't have a choice. The forehead of every person she sees is marked by the shadowy digits of their deathdate. Her unique, innate skill often feels more like a curse than a gift, and Maddie grudgingly puts it to use identifying deathdates for the paying customers her mother reels in. It seems like a straightforward way to help support her family-until one client's young son goes missing on the exact date Maddie has pinpointed, and she gets pulled into a homicide investigation that turns her world upside down.
As more young people disappear and are later found murdered, suspicion swirls around Maddie. At once a suspect in the investigation, a target for the murderer, and a partner in a tantalizing dance with a boy who might be connected to it all, could Maddie also hold the key to cracking the case?
This perfectly plotted high-stakes, fast-paced thriller marks New York Times best-selling author Victoria Laurie's YA debut and brims with depth, heart, action, and romance.

Audience: 13+

Why I want to read it:
I was working at the register this weekend when Kelsey, casually, and ever so sneakily slides this book under the counter for me to look at (and buy, obviously). After I read the 1st sentence I just stared at her across the store, mouth wide open.  It would be utterly terrifying to know when everyone around you is going to die, and yet, I feel like I can't get to this book soon enough.

4. GIRL IN PIECES by Kathleen Glasgow

For fans of Girl, Interrupted, Thirteen Reasons Why, and All the Bright Places comes a novel Nicola Yoon, author of Everything, Everything, calls "a haunting, beautiful, and necessary book that will stay with you long after you've read the last page."

Charlotte Davis is in pieces. At seventeen she’s already lost more than most people do in a lifetime. But she’s learned how to forget. The broken glass washes away the sorrow until there is nothing but calm. You don’t have to think about your father and the river. Your best friend, who is gone forever. Or your mother, who has nothing left to give you.
Every new scar hardens Charlie’s heart just a little more, yet it still hurts so much. It hurts enough to not care anymore, which is sometimes what has to happen before you can find your way back from the edge.
A deeply moving portrait of a girl in a world that owes her nothing, and has taken so much, and the journey she undergoes to put herself back together. Kathleen Glasgow's debut is heartbreakingly real and unflinchingly honest. It’s a story you won’t be able to look away from.

Audience: 13+

Why I want to read it:
I follow Kathleen Glasgow on twitter...nuff said.

Actually I lied here's more. If I were writing a book (which let's face it, I should NEVER EVER in a million years do, because I mean you're reading this right?? I'm terrible) I would be tweeting almost exactly what she tweets.  It's like she's in my head or something, and I LOVE it (and her)!

Yet soon it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory must make a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants and the truths that need to be heard.

Audience: 13+

Why I want to read it:
Jennifer had 30 days of giveaways on her facebook page not too long ago, and it included these adorable owls.  I love owls.  I can get behind any author with amazing giveaways that include owls.  Plus the cover is REALLY pretty (I'm terrible aren't I?) Also, romance :)

Audience: 13+

Why I want to read it:
Simply put, Neal Shusterman changed my life with the UNWIND series.  The least I can do is keep reading his work, but I also feel very strongly connected to the main character (Caden) already.  90% of the time I feel like I'm completely in my own head, and that maybe I'm actually crazy.  (My husband would 100% agree with the aforementioned statement)
